Noam Chomsky

"[Noam] Chomsky's truly great contribution to the struggle for human freedom is that he has taken what we have been persuaded to believe is an insane idea, a product only of individual neurosis – the idea that society is not free and quite possibly not even sane – and shown it to be empirically, demonstrably true; he has provided the vital support for the individual to be able to declare him – and herself sane against the insanity of society, despite a million voices declaring that it is the occasional doubter who is mad."

– David Edwards Burning All Illusions

Recently acclaimed as the "world's greatest intellectual", Chomsky has been criticised from the left as a hypocrite and for his support of Zionism. He has also been criticised as a "self-hating Jew" and as "anti-American".

* Who's Afraid of Noam Chomsky? by Richard Wall, 17 August 2004. “Professor Noam Chomsky is a fierce critic of US wars and foreign policy, and a brilliant analyst of the propaganda and psychological mechanisms through which the liberal-bureaucratic establishment achieves public consent and endorsement of the aggressive actions of the state.”
* The Voice of Dissidence by Christian Tyler, 08 July 1995. “In the land of the free and the home of the brave, Noam Chomsky is a dissident. For 30 years, this mild-looking East Coast academic has been denouncing the U.S. government and its puppet-master, big business, for sponsoring the oppression, torture and murder of the poor in order to make the world safe for American capitalism.”
